Astrology goes back several millennia to the rich alluvial plains of Chaldea, which lie between the mighty Tigris and Euphrates rivers. Astrology literally means "the Science of the Stars", from the Greek astrologia: astron (constellation; star) and logia (study of). A person who practices astrology is called an astrologer.

Psalm 19 1:4 states "The heavens declare the glory of God. And the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, And night unto night sheweth knowledge. There is no speech nor language, Where their voice is not heard. Their line is gone out through all the earth, And their words to the end of the world."

Job 1:1 states "There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God and eschewed evil." Later God is questioning this righteous man about the heavenly setup. Job 38:31-33 states "Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion? Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? Or canst thou guide Arcturus with his sons? Knowest thou the ordinances of heaven? Canst thou set the dominion thereof in the earth?"

In reference to Elisha the prophet, 2 Kings 4:22-23 states "And she called unto her husband, and said, Send me, I pray thee, one of the young men, and one of the asses, that I may run to the man of God, and come again. And he said, Wherefore wilt thou go to him to day? it is neither new moon, nor sabbath. And she said, It shall be well."

Many people will ask, "Do you believe in astrology?" However, they will never ask, "Do you believe in medicine or chemistry or biology or weather forecasting?" It does not require "belief," for it is as much a science as any of the other so-called sciences. And when we apply its teachings to the improvement of life, it becomes an art just like medicine or weather forecasting.

Astrology can be put to many uses. It is used for the greatest good when it is considered as one set of basic symbols (not unlike our alphabet) to better understand and express our relationship to our environment. In the proper hands, it can be a most valuable tool in helping us to understand our own behavior and how this behavior manifests from time to time in the symptom of diseases. It can help us to understand why we think or act as we do. It can be used in divining the future. And it is this latter item that has contributed largely to the disrepute of astrology. For what man fears, he attempts to protect himself from, and those who can forecast the future are feared.
